the moth makes mondays okay
bleh. mondays. not fun days, but at least they're "the moth" days!
this NPR podcast reminds me of what i loved most about being a history major: relishing in the human experience through stories, slivers of life that allow us to better make sense of, appreciate, and deal with the chaos of our own lives.
here's this week's podcast - Sheri Holman: Rescue Mission.
"even then, i was so self-conscious...and i was so conscious of the picture i made...i was still living my life in third person. except now it wasn't a story anymore - i had actually caused real damage. and i was trapped."
and here's another one; hilario - Jeffery Rudell: The Undertaker's Daughter.
point of inspiration: thanks to jacqueline, my coworker, who introduced me to this lovely podcast during our 10-hour layover in the lufthansa first-class lounge in frankfurt.

temper trap
point of inspiration: my friend joey intro'ed me to "the temper trap" a few days ago, and i thought their epicness was cool sht. this morning, the most popular song on hypem was a remix of the temper trap's "love lost."
here are both versions for your listening pleasure.
dubstep remix by adventure club here.
original song here (entertaining video):

dragonette / myspace / music discovery
i dig dragonette and their electronic-ness.
no point of inspiration, just stumbled upon them while browsing musica on the web.
a fun song is posted below, but check out their myspace for more.
on a side note - although i still have scars from the trashiness that myspace has subjected me to in the past, the service is far from dead in terms of music. i don't use it all the time, but it's my go-to for exploring more music by a certain artist and figuring out which few tracks they, themselves, want to highlight.
while i have my trusty youtube+pandora+hypem+myspace thing going, i'm still looking for better tools. last.fm has been surprisingly lackluster...

energy
when i start thinking about energy and the world becoming a huge greenhouse and all of the terrible things we're doing to our environment, i start getting panic attacks and begin feeling guilty for every single thing i do. like, omg those 45 seconds i just spent zoning out in the shower will ultimately contribute to the accelerated arrival of our impending doom. or when i step on the gas pedal of a car too hard and hear the engine go wheeeee, i just envision all the emissions farting out of the tailpipe and doomsday getting closer and closer. nooOOOOOOoooOOOoo.
anyway, i try to make myself feel better by switching to paperless billing, drinking out of a reusable water bottle, and, of course, subscribing to treehugger.com on my google reader.
here's a 1.5 year old post that i stumbled upon. it's called "powering your home by bike," and it's about this BBC show called "Bang Goes the Theory," where they demonstrate how many people on bikes it would take to power a house. it's crayyyyyyy.

i love adele
point of inspiration: just finished reading an interview with her in the rolling stone. she is one feisty momma. and so talented.
her cover of cheryl cole's "promise this" is EPIC. props to bina for introducing me to this song.

pawn, the musical
i was in the first incarnation of this musical (when it was called Abraham Niu and the Friendly Fires), and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
it has evolved since then, becoming a full-fledged stanford production called Pawn.
one of the new songs in Pawn is called "Dog Days." it never fails to bring tears to my eyes:
point of inspiration: i was trying to play my sister's keyboard last night, and the only thing i could find was the script for Abraham Niu. i started looking through the songs and tried to figure out the chords. made me miss the songs so so much -- so, thank god for youtube!

cuteroulette
cuteroulette: you have to check this site out.
point of inspiration: the one and only zac o. who also was the first to introduce me to rebecca black.
you know, i'm cool with her -- she won me over at 3:44 in her interview on good morning america.

graffiti is art
point of inspiration: my friend sally introduced me to this band called twin shadow, whom i dig but find a little too ambient for my taste. anyway, her introduction resulted in some youtube surfing, and i stumbled upon this.
i don't think this is the official video for the song "for now," but this is cool sht.
better than couchsurfing?
wow, this site is amazing: airbnb.com/
for regular people, it's legitimate apartments anywhere in the world for legitimate prices.

point of inspiration: techcrunch
flash2thepast: japanese aerobics
remember this, guys??
point of inspiration: my coworker john caught me doing some post-ACL-surgery stretches in the office, and we started doing aerobics.

eric whitacre's virtual choir
i remember performing eric whitacre's lux aurumque during my short stint with the university singers when i was a freshman in college. it's a freaking beautiful piece, and this piece with eric whitacre's virtual choir is so cool!
this is why i am absolutely in love with technology: it brings people together.
extraterrestrial beings welcomed!
so i'm helping some friends apartment hunt for a place in the mission, and this is the ad for the open house i'm going to tonight. click below to see the full size image.
wish me luck! if you don't hear from me in a few days, please contact the missing people department.
late bloomer
ok yah yah yah i might be a fewwww years late, but i've found myself going through a phase with Tegan and Sara. watched a few of their live shows on youtube - omg they are so entertaining and endearing. reminds me of my sister and me.
my top 3 picks:
1. feel it in my bones - seeing tiesto live at coachella was one of the most epic experiences of my life. this song is grrreat.
2. intervention - i love margaret cho. she is entertaining, and so is this video:
3. alligator - this song is cuuuute. however, i'm convinced that t&s can't dance b/c in every one of the coordinated dancing scenes, their faces be MISSING.
bonus: t&s make a guest appearance on sara bareilles' video for uncharted. i don't care if sara bareilles is all mainstream and playing at the shoreline ampitheatre and sht - she be cool in my book!
blogspot > wordpress. and HELLOOO.
i've had a few other blogspot blogs, so i thought i'd branch out and try wordpress. i mean, from what i hear, wordpress is what peeps use to blog nowadays.
HOWEVER, my short journey to creating this blog has already led me through quite an adventure into a terrible user experience with wordpress.
here's how it started.
like most peeps do nowadays, i googled "wordpress" instead of typing in "wordpress.com." the first result was "wordpress.org," so, naturally, i clicked that shizz.

then i saw this:
hell yeah i wanna create a beautiful blog!but NOOOOO...

needless to say, i was quite confused at this point. SURELY, creating a wordpress wasn't this hard for the millions of other bloggers out there.
after getting freaked out by situation depicted in above image, i got my ass over to blogspot.com and created this blog. oh snap. 3 minutes later, and here i am, type-typing away, griping about wordpress's UX.
ANYWAYZ, it occurred to me that maybe i should try going to wordpress.com for the hell of it, just to see what's on the site...
and omg it was exactly what i was looking for ten minutes ago!the question going through my mind at this point: WHY THE EFF WOULDN'T YOU LINK TO WORDPRESS.COM FROM WORDPRESS.ORG???
rawr. sigh. anyway, here's my inaugural post for this blog: postcoolsht.BLOGSPOT.com. basically, i'll just be posting cool sht for the sake of posting cool sht.
sharing is caring, so i figure that if i see something that tickles my fancy, i'll share it here for the viewing pleasure of whomever stumbles upon this little bloggie. yay!!!
-AFONG
p.s. good thing i didn't sign up for wordpress. they just got hacked today.
